Unit Converter: Convert Length, Weight, Volume, Temperature & More
Unit Converter is a fast, accurate tool for converting between metric and imperial units across ten measurement categories — length, weight, volume, temperature, area, speed, time, digital storage, pressure, and energy. Type a value, pick your units, and the result appears instantly. A full conversion table below shows the same value in every supported unit for that category.
All conversions run locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no sign-up. The tool works on any device and never sends your input anywhere.
Why Use a Unit Converter?
Unit conversion is one of those tasks that comes up constantly — and one where small errors can have real consequences. A recipe measured in cups that needs to be converted to milliliters. A shipping label with a weight in pounds that a European courier expects in kilograms. A weather report in Fahrenheit that a reader needs in Celsius. A code review where file sizes are quoted in MiB but the config expects MB.
A good converter does three things well: it is accurate, it handles the correct conversion factors (including the tricky ones like US versus UK gallons), and it shows enough context — the full conversion table, the formula used — so you can verify the result instead of trusting it blindly.
Ten Categories, Dozens of Units
Length. Millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer, inch, foot, yard, mile, and nautical mile. The nautical mile is 1,852 meters exactly — the international standard used in aviation and marine navigation.
Weight. Milligram, gram, kilogram, metric ton, ounce, pound, and stone. The stone (14 pounds) is still widely used in the UK and Ireland for body weight.
Volume. Milliliter, liter, cubic meter, teaspoon, tablespoon, fluid ounce, cup, pint, quart, gallon (US), and gallon (UK). US and UK fluid measures are different — a US fluid ounce is 29.57 mL, while a UK fluid ounce is 28.41 mL.
Temperature. Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, and Rankine. Temperature is handled with proper affine formulas, not a simple multiplier, so negative values and absolute zero are correct.
Area. Square millimeter through square mile, plus hectares and acres. An acre is 4,046.86 square meters.
Speed. Meters per second, kilometers per hour, miles per hour, feet per second, and knots. A knot is one nautical mile per hour, or 0.5144 m/s.
Time. Millisecond through year, with the caveat that months and years are treated as fixed 30-day and 365-day periods — the standard convention for unit converters.
Digital storage. Bit, byte, and both decimal (KB, MB, GB, TB) and binary (KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB) prefixes. A 1 TB drive holds about 931 GiB — which is why your OS may show it as smaller than the label suggests.
Pressure. Pascal, kilopascal, bar, millibar, psi, atmosphere, and millimeter of mercury. One atmosphere equals 101,325 Pa.
Energy. Joule, kilojoule, calorie, kilocalorie (food Calorie), watt-hour, kilowatt-hour, and BTU. A food Calorie (kcal) is 4,184 joules — the energy needed to raise one kilogram of water by one degree Celsius.
Handling Fractions and Scientific Notation
The input field accepts plain decimals, thousands separators, scientific notation (1.5e3), and simple fractions. Entering 3/4 converts to 0.75, and entering 1 3/4 converts to 1.75 — useful for imperial measurements that are traditionally expressed as fractions.
Full Conversion Table, Recent History, and Shareable Links
Below the converter, the tool displays a full conversion table for the current category. Every unit in that category is shown with the same input value converted to it, highlighting the from/to units so relationships are easy to scan. Every conversion you run is also saved to a recent items list — click any chip to reload it instantly. And a "Share link" button encodes the current conversion in the URL, so you can bookmark it or send it to a teammate.
Precision Control
The default output shows four decimal places, with trailing zeros stripped so you only see meaningful digits. You can increase precision up to ten decimal places for engineering or scientific work, or reduce it to two for everyday use. Very small or very large results switch automatically to scientific notation so the output stays readable.
Private, Fast, and Free
Everything runs locally in your browser. No text, no number, and no unit selection leaves your device. There is no sign-up, no limit, and no data retention of any kind. Your last-used settings and recent conversions are saved locally on your device only. Bookmark it for quick access whenever you need to convert a measurement.
